The Lucy V. Barnsley Science Fair is BACK! The PTA is excited to sponsor this event for our Barnsley students.
Barnsley students in 2nd , 3rd , 4th and 5th Grade are eligible to be Science Fair Participants. All students are welcome to attend the Science Fair to view all the amazing projects and enjoy Science activities. Science Projects can be individual or a group of 2-3 students max. All participants will have to work on their projects at home. There will not be any opportunity to work on your project during school hours. If you choose to have a group project, you will have to coordinate meeting with your partner(s) outside of school.
Projects must be written up and displayed on a tri-fold board. The display must stand by itself. Due to space
limitations, please do not have a display bigger than the standard tri-fold display board of 28-30 inches long x 40 inches high. Make sure your name is listed on the display board. Also, we are asking that no materials be distributed by our young scientists at the Science Fair.
All completed science projects will be set up at the school the day of the Science Fair from 6-630p. The Science Fair will kick off at 630p. Every student that participates in the Science Fair will be entered into a raffle. You must be present at the Science Fair to be a raffle winner. At 8p, we will announce our student raffle winners. At 830p, students will begin to pack up their projects to take home.

2024 Barnsley Chess Club
The Barnsley PTA is pleased to sponsor chess lessons with Chess Master Arkadiy Frenkel. Mr Frenkel is a chess master (USCF rating 2374) and a chess instructor with over 30 years experience teaching chess. He has taught at Catonsville Community College, Potomac ES, Ashburton ES, and many other schools including here at Barnsley.
Chess Club is open to students of all levels: beginners learn how to play chess, while more experienced students work on improving their strategy. A portion of each class is devoted to instruction and a portion to play (students are matched with those of similar ability). Students participate in individual and team chess tournaments during the second part of this session.
Chess teaches kids to think before they act. They learn strategy, sportsmanship, and about the consequences of their decisions. It’s also a lot of fun!
